VITTORIA VANGHELIS

Vittoria Vanghelis's expressive form is immediate and, at the same time, paradoxically sublime, sibylline and mysterious. Canvases where pictorial surfaces clot, thicken and stratify more to remove rather than add, chaotic contamination secretly ordered with elements and planes where Vittoria Vanghelis starts the comparison, with the alternate and tumultuous current of the material, colour. Soon you realise that the artist is in direct dialogue with the energy of things, her work is the same as an accomplished and significant reality that immediately strays into everyday life. A reticular and spasmodic analysis that Vittoria Vanghelis stubbornly pursues, extending the boundaries of the object, breaking the silk thread that encloses this strengthened territory. This attention, almost painful care and joyful ivresse she places in her work trace a path towards the indescribable, the only possible road to the mysterious. Mystery can only manifest itself in allusions hidden in the minute folds of reality. Imagination recoils before reality, becoming ever smaller until it disappears. Whereas, attention penetrates reality undaunted, directly and as a symbol, thus becoming the most legitimate, ethical and absolute form of imagination. That which, undoubtedly, an ancient alchemy text alludes to, recommending "real and not fantastic imagination" be dedicated to the work. The artist snatches abyssal depth and Eden-like spaces, lost parabola and metaphors from the structure of the pictorial material; suggesting green tree-like cathedrals, obscure mosaic-like paths where distant radiations of pure light pulsate, opening up secret rooms that suddenly appear, whitewashed of the unreal, free from hypocrisy. "Art- affirms Vittoria Vanghelis – is freedom and supreme freedom consists in setting out rules for one's actions". When light finds itself in the shadows and the whole shadow disperses into the light, it is no longer possible to think back to how things were at the beginning. Within Vittoria Vanghelis's performance women are the means of communication, wizards, carriers of gasps and messages that in concentric circles, following a thread of thought and reflection, in the liturgy of the launch interweave destinies, recompose dispersed harmonies, balance the feminine with the masculine.

On the 6th of May, divided between various containers, an epiphany of pictorial events intertwine like evocative, emblematic and elusive traces of water, lacerations on kinetic and unfathomable depths. Reflections of light and colour, vaporised foam, candid and opalescent waves, intricate algae and the suspicion of tyrannical lives, regal white, blue and purple, jade, turquoise and malachite. Vittoria Vanghelis's performance represents the essence of Riva's spirit through ideas and interactions. The subtle and acclaimed relationship between the habit and spirit of the boat is depicted in a pattern of details, brush strokes, shapes and three dimensional curves. The three-dimensional materiality of the body and sculptured habit, the perception of sounds and light, unrecognisable in daily life, create a field of tension within which the audience live an acute experience that reduces the boundaries between artist and spectator. Objects, stories, rituals, waning spectacularity, technological know-how, the performance human contribution – 20 workers from the Riva boat yard involved in building the 75'Venere take part in the performance- come together to form a project full of ethical and aesthetic contents, idioms and suggestions. "An itinerary- says, Vittoria Vanghelis-that concludes with a "good gesture" on the part of all those that produced this event. We have all contributed to a fund in favour of the Il Volo association that helps youngsters suffering from psycho-sociological problems." Here, seeing becomes perceiving thanks to a magical network of time, beauty, narrative flow, work and love. True poetry is hieroglyphic, it can only be deciphered as destiny.

VITTORIA VANGHELIS' THOUGHT

ART IS. ART MUST.

Art must make suggestions on how to make ethical improvements and bear witness, far from cultural hypocrisy, in the search for “shared good thinking”.
Art is freedom and supreme freedom consists in setting oneself rules on how to behave, in the independent decision to go one's own way according to ethics.
I work ethically in artistic expression.
In philosophical thinking ethics is something that arises in contrast with events of decadence.
In the “after something there is always something else” is a fundamental key.
One's duty is to point out decadence, the social evil, but also to point out that, beyond decadence, there is a need to support values.
Man, unlike animals, is the place to reveal oneself, therefore the spirit.
Man can only be himself by making his existence a project and assuming responsibility.
Only then is it authentic. Authenticity exists.
Without a project and responsibility there is no man, only animal, in the precious sense of the instinctual, and therefore of value, but not man as such.
An artistic fact identifies itself within a complete and significant reality, that strays into everyday life often in provocation as contraposition aimed at breaking the wall of opacity of media consent and aesthetic enjoyment, however it is also noticeable when it becomes complete and significant reality as a result of using aesthetic enjoyment and media consent as expressive instruments.
The artistic fact takes charge whether it be “provocation” or “signification” provided provocation opens the door to restlessness and signification opens the door to believing. Art needs ethics and ethics needs art.
It is said that art must not be resolved in politics or religion as it must give substance to that which, in religion and politics, goes beyond form.. going beyond, surpassing and, as in a circle, returning to the beginning, to man.
It is there that works of art must go, beyond their essence, beyond just the object.
Art illuminates when what it is illuminating is the source of its light, that is how integration is born and there is no difference between those who observe and those observed. We are in a direct dialogue with the energy of things and performance is a documented alchemy where a moment in time, human nature and desire are one with the energy that brings things to life.
It is a moment around which the elements, more or less tangible, and the material evolve and change becoming a platform of action and dialogue, a representative instrument to explore and analyse psychological and physical situations.
The human element in the performance, here, a woman, in her dual nature, with cultural contents as well as aesthetic references, is a means of communication as well as messenger.
The aspects forming the performance and installations highlight how an “Ethical art” exists, exceeding and going beyond the banal aesthetic enjoyment, whose presence is only one of the ways of making us reflect”.
“Integration” is part of the dialogue between man and man, between man and things, between things and things.

What is integrated art?

It is the result of the fusion of various elements for a unified vision.
Performance represents the boat but even more what lies beyond just the boat.
The spirit of the boat.
The three-dimensional materiality of the body and sculptured habit, the perception of sounds and light, unrecognisable in daily life, create a field of tension within which the audience live an acute experience that reduces the boundaries between artist and spectator.
Performance is the representation of that which is the essence of Riva's Spirit through ideas and interactions.
Reading through the thoughts of critics and philosophers I am putting in words that which I express with my performance and installations in Riva's boat yards, containers and the 75' Venere.
Things and men converse integrating and creating the meaning of a content laden project, in an alchemy that concludes with a “gesture of goodwill” on the part of all those that have taken part in producing the event, in fact, we have all contributed voluntarily to the “Il Volo Cooperative” fund that offers help to youngsters suffering from psychosocial problems.

Art is. Art must.
